The German government and the European Union will go deep in their pockets for the megafactory Intel wants to build in Magdeburg, Germany. The American producer would receive a subsidy of not less than $6.8 billion, or a subsidy of €17 billion, 40% of the total estimated cost. According to Heise, Intel will receive around 2.7 billion euros this year.

From next year, including contributions from the EU, Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) and EU Chip Law. Second, it is a European target for 20% of global semiconductor production to take place on European soil by 2030. In addition, companies should be able to compete technologically with American and Asian factories (products up to 2 nanometers).

Intel plans to invest €80 billion in the European chip industry over the next ten years.

According to the current schedule, the construction of the Magdeburg site will begin in the first half of 2023. The first chips will be off the production line by 2027. This facility will initially consist of two factories that will provide products in advanced processes (20A and better) for both Intel’s and customers’ designs. The company expects to create approximately 3,000 high-tech jobs as a result, along with “tens of thousands of additional jobs with suppliers and partners.”
