Toyota as Tesla: the Japanese manufacturer will sell accumulators intended for household use. In short, super batteries that allow you to save the electricity from solar panels. The first product is called O-Uchi Kyuden. Unfortunately, at least initially, it will be available exclusively in Japan.

Over there O-Uchi Kyuden Battery it has a storage capacity of 8.7 kWh with a maximum power output of 5.5 kW. Like other products of this type, the battery is smart and fully programmable with a dedicated smartphone app.

Strangely enough, in the absence of solar panels it is possible to power the battery with the batteries of electric cars using the V2G connection. An extreme solution, but it can come in handy in the event of a blackout. Pre-orders are already open, with the first units set to ship in August. For sales to customers, Toyota will rely on a network of builders and local professionals, who can present the battery during the installation of the solar panels.

O-Uchi Kyuden is positioned in the same market as Tesla’s Powerwalls, batteries designed for domestic use to be combined with solar panels. More and more manufacturers of hybrid and electric cars have chosen to use their know-how to also produce batteries for private homes.
