Two highly anticipated news items have been released on the channel WhatsApp Beta First: it is possible filter chats based on the content of unread messages. Second, a larger number of users will have access to the ability to share files with a maximum size of 2GB. The latter is one of the features that has historically been most requested by users.

The first change concerns the desktop version of whatsapp, and therefore those for computers. The second is the normal smartphone app.

The filter works quite simply. When searching for a keyword in the app, it is now possible to check a special box that limits the search only to messages that have not yet been read. More filters are likely to be added tomorrow – for example, the ability to limit the search to groups only, or to private chats.

As for sharing 2 GB files, it looks like the global rollout has finally begun. So far, the test has only (so they say online) involved a very small group of users in South America. However, we are always talking about the beta of WhatsApp and not the stable version. If you’re afraid of this feature, all you need to do is v . to downloadversion 2.22.13.6 of the beta and hope to be among the lucky ones who can test it. Currently on WhatsApp it is possible to send files with a maximum size of 100 MB.
