AMD has confirmed several times that the AM4 motherboard platform will remain in the range for now. It looks like AMD is planning an AM4 variant of their Zen 4 processors. This processor will have DDR4 support on AM4 motherboards. This is a special case because AMD previously announced that Zen 4 will only support DDR5 and therefore cannot run on an AM4 motherboard.

AMD’s Robert Hallock had previously confirmed that AM4 and AM5 will coexist, and new CPUs could be coming for all platforms. AMD is struggling to compete with Intel Raptor Lake, which supports both DDR4 and DDR5 alongside existing 600-series motherboards. In response to the previous Alder Lake, AMD had released a number of mainstream Ryzen 5000 parts. Now he’ll have to repeat that approach to keep up with Raptor Lake. AMD can choose between more Zen 3 parts or a DDR4-powered Zen 4 version.

Zen 4 in AM4 will not be an upper segment. If the rumors come true, 8 cores and 16 threads are expected to be offered.
