Founded in 2014 by Xia Heng and He Tao, two former GAC Group directors, and with investments from Alibaba, Foxconn, Xiaomi and IDG, XPeng is quickly positioning itself as a serious contender in the electric vehicle market.

The first model released by Xpeng was the G3 (now discontinued), which was unveiled in early 2019 at CES in Las Vegas. Then, also in 2019, they unveiled their second model, the R7during the Shanghai Auto Fair. Sales started in June 2020. In China, it was positioned as a real alternative to the Tesla Model 3.

Xpeng also has a strategic agreement with Volkswagen, which invested $700 million and acquired a 4.99% stake in the company. They are developing two VW electric vehicles for the Chinese market.

In total, Xpeng sells five vehicles: R7 mid-size sedan, P5 which is a compact sedan, G9 which is a mid-size SUV, G6the second smaller and more modern midsize SUV than the G9, and X9a full-size minivan. Although not all of them will arrive in Spain at the moment.

All Xpeng innovations

All their cars feature innovative design, minimalist interiors and lots of technology. Xpeng has developed a fully autonomous driving system called XPILOT, which is already in its third version 3.5, which includes the use of LIDAR radar, although the most used version is 3.0.

Xpeng also attracted attention for the development Xpeng Voyager X2A 100% electric flying multicopter (eVTOL or electric vertical takeoff and landing as its acronym in English) that was given the green light to operate in China in January 2023. Although the aircraft has not yet entered the market, it estimates that its sales will begin this year.

Speng It joins a dozen Chinese companies that are landing in Spain and Europe, aiming to open up a new market on the continent by offering new cars with new designs, 100% electric and with lots of technology inside.

At the moment, the final prices for the cars that will go on sale in Spain are unknown, but all these details are expected to be revealed during their official presentation in the country.
