Soon cars Tesla they can adjust them automatically suspensionsfor damage caused by holes and off unpaved roads. The news is included in the recent 2022.20 update.
The car is able to scan the road, identifying possible ground anomalies. If Tesla detects a potentially dangerous pothole, it automatically adjusts the suspension to prevent damage to the bodywork and make driving more enjoyable.
Tesla explains that the new system relies on data provided by other vehicles, meaning that every time a Tesla car drives down a road by identifying a pothole, it is then reported to all of the company’s other cars. For this reason, the service will not always be available and in some streets that are not very busy it may not be accessible.
Owners can decide for themselves whether or not to activate the new feature. To do this, they need to go to the ‘Comfort‘of the settings menu dedicated to the adaptive adjustment system.
However, the hole detection system does not communicate with Autopilot or with Full Self-Driving mode. In other words, the semi-automatic driving of the Tesla does not automatically steer to avoid potholes. It’s a precaution to avoid safety issues, the manufacturer explains. The risk is that a sudden swerve to avoid uneven road sections can pose a danger to cyclists and other motorists.
