Roche Diagnostics, together with its subsidiary TİB Molbiol, announced that it will provide tests for the detection of monkeypox.

The PCR-type test, which will collect material from skin lesions, considered the gold standard for the detection of viral diseases, will be offered in three versions with different degrees of virus detection and identification.

The first kit detects all strains of orthopoxvirus. Second, it detects specific for West African and Central African variants. And the third kit is a mix of the first two, which detects all types of orthopoxviruses and determines if it corresponds to one of the African strains.

According to the company’s statement, the tests will be made available to public and private institutions and will initially be used for research purposes only. But laboratories will be able to diagnose as long as they validate clinical trials.

Currently, Brazil is experiencing an increase in the disease, with more than 200 confirmed cases on national territory.
