It may be a basic item, but with the speed at which we move, it becomes a luxury item. And we can’t afford it the car has a breakdown or its life cycle has been shortened because we treat it badly.
Vehicles have a method of use, which is detailed in the manual. doWho drives by manual? Almost nobody. Especially in aspects related to the loss of 1-2 minutes of time.
Taking good care of your car is always important, but especially when long trips are made. On these routes, the engine and critical components such as turbocharging are particularly affected.
As our colleague Aaron Perez explains to us at Auto Bild, always You must give the engine time to warm up when we start. You must respect the time.
When starting, do not raise a lot of speed and accelerate gradually so that the engine increases those degrees that are necessary to prevent premature wear of the internal parts of the block. It also helps the coolant circulate around the circuit and all the metals expand and bond before requiring more workload from the engine.
The same principle applies when we arrive at the destination and stop the car, especially on long trips. You must allow the engine, and especially the turbo if you have one, to cool down before turning it off.
The turbocharger gets very hot and if you do not wait until it cools down you risk damaging the bearings and ultimately leads to costly failure.
For this reason, after a long journey, let the engine idle for a few seconds (approximately a minute)in this way you will help the turbocharger to lower the temperature and prolong its service life.
It is better to lose this minute than to endure a break and leave a good bundle of banknotes in the workshop.
