The water resistance found in many mobile phones is often unpredictable and may work in some situations and not in others. For an iPhone owner who fell overboard during a paddleboarding session in the UK, this protection has proven effective.

In a post that went viral on Reddit on Monday, 18, user “VAN_DOOM” said he lost his smartphone after five minutes of paddling in the English Channel off the English coast. About seven hours after the incident, the phone started working again at the bottom of the sea and the signal was picked up by the Find iPhone tool.

The internet user says that it is possible to recover the device after the location provided by the Apple app (see image below), but does not give further details on how this action took place. Apparently the phone was located on the beach of Brighton, England.

The post also informed that the mobile phone recovered from the seabed was not “damaged” despite being underwater for hours. Netizen also did not comment on which model of iPhone was used when the device sank in the English Channel.

Brazil was not so lucky

Unlike the iPhone, which was found at the bottom of the sea in England and returned to work, a Brazilian whose smartphone came into contact with water was not so lucky. as reported by SheetMaxCuiabá (MT) resident’s iPhone XR stopped working after getting a “water splash” on the device.

While the warranty was still in effect, the owner sued Apple, which refused to repair the phone, claiming that the screen defects could not be repaired. Faced with denial, he filed suit against the manufacturer and was victorious, entitled to compensation of R$9.6k for moral and material damages – the decision is still subject to appeal.
