Ministry of Health this Monday (25) Brazil already 696 cases of monkeypox (monkeypox) confirmed so far. The state of São Paulo runs the country with 506 infected.

Pasta also announced the number of infected people in each region of the country: Rio de Janeiro (102 cases), Minas Gerais (33), Federal District (13), Paraná (11), Goiás (14), Bahia (3), Pernambuco (3), Rio Grande do Norte (2), Ceará (2), Espírito Santo (2), Mato Grosso do Sul (1) and Santa Catarina (1).

“The ministry continues to engage directly with states to track cases and trace patient contacts,” the agency said in an emailed note. Updated figures will be announced by the Ministry of Health later in the day.

It is worth noting that the disease is now recognized as a “public health emergency of international concern” by the World Health Organization (WHO). The announcement was made by the agency’s managing director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, last Saturday (23).

According to him, the decision was defined as having “a risk to human health, international spread and the potential to interfere with international traffic”.

Currently, the disease has been detected in 75 countries with more than 16,000 cases. According to the World Health Organization, the total death toll has reached five.
