Surprisingly, Rivian announced that it is the entry level of his electric pick-up R1T. Now the cheapest version of the vehicle, the Adventure model, starts at $73,000. Six thousand dollars more. The company’s customers didn’t take it very well.

Not only did the Rivian eliminate theR1T Explore of its price list, but has also unilaterally canceled all pre-orders already made. Those who booked the cheapest version of the pickup had two choices: get the deposit back or move the order to the more expensive one R1T Adventure.

Rivian also canceled the cheaper version of its R1S electric SUV. In an email to customers, a company spokesperson explained that the decision had been made to streamline and simplify the production process, to speed up the delivery of new vehicles – one of the weaknesses of the very young carmaker.

In the last quarter, Rivian announced that it has produced 4,467 vehicles to date and has a target to deliver 25,000 by the end of the year. Time is running out and the drastic decision to cancel the two models should bring the goal closer.

Rivian also announced that only a small percentage of customers had pre-ordered the R1T Explore, while the majority of customers had opted for the more expensive, better-performing and better-equipped versions of the pickup.
