What if Elon Musk is right? Former Twitter chief denounces reckless and careless cybersecurity policy

If we look back, a few months ago, what launched telefiario and made headlines was an agreement between Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Twitter to buy the social network for about $44,000 million.

A few weeks later, this deal fell apart due to Musk’s distrust: Twitter lied about the number of real users by minimizing the weight of bots on its platform. From that moment on, there is a tug-of-war on the part of the social network and the millionaire.

And despite everything, it seems that Elon Musk was right. Twitter has serious security issues that pose a threat to the personal information of its own users, the company’s shareholders, national security, and democracy.

At least that’s how it became known thanks to the revelation published by CNN and The Washington Post. A disclosure sent last month to Congress and federal agencies describes a chaotic and reckless environment.

And all this in a poorly managed company that allows too many employees to access central platform controls and sensitive information without proper oversight.

It is also alleged that some of the top managers of the company tried to cover up serious Twitter vulnerabilities. and that one or more current employees may work for foreign intelligence.

An applicant who has agreed to be publicly identified is Peter “filthy” Zatko, who until now was the company’s head of securitywho reported directly to the CEO.

Zatko also claims that Twitter management misled its own board of directors and government regulators about security vulnerabilities.including those that could allegedly open the door to foreign espionage or manipulation, hacking and disinformation.

The complainant also alleges that Twitter cannot securely delete users’ data after they close their accounts. in some cases due to the company losing information and misleading regulators as to whether data should be deleted as required.

The whistleblower also says Twitter executives don’t have the resources to fully understand the true number of bots on the platform.and they were not motivated to do so (despite the fact that it cost them a very good deal).

According to the company, Zatko was fired from Twitter in January for poor performance. Zatko said his public complaint came after he tried to point out security flaws to Twitter’s board of directors. and help Twitter fix years of technical flaws.
