safety belt they have saved thousands of lives over several decades of their lives. They became mandatory in Spain in 1975 for the front seats and in 1992 for the rear.

What is the seat belt for? It is logical to think because we can check it when we use it, it is keeps us in place and prevents us from shootingwhich could result in a fatal blow to the vehicle glass, chassis or seat.

Indeed, the belt serves as a restraint, but according to the DGT, this is not its main function.. As our colleague Aaron Perez told us at Auto Bild, the General Directorate of Traffic explained on social media that The seatbelt serves primarily… as a parachute..

This is a description that needs to be explained. How can a seat belt work like a parachute?

In the words of DGT himself: “The belt is made to stretch, it loses width and gains length so as not to cause serious injury. It acts like a parachute.”

This safety system is not elastic, but in the event of a strong impact, such as a hard stop or a collision, its fibers are intertwined in such a way that it loses width and gains length so as not to cause serious injury to the user.

When an accident occurs the resulting inertial forces are severe. At a speed of 80 km/h, a passenger is ejected from strength 80 times its weightreports Auto Bild.

Almost all automotive security systems have some percentage of elasticity or deformationto dissipate kinetic energy and get deceleration of bodies is less sharp. From the airbag to the headrests or the body itself, which deforms rather than splintering or remaining rigid.

And from what we now know also seat belts. Everything is done to save lives and reduce injuries.
