During the Far Out keynote, Apple presented the new Apple Watch Ultra: it’s a wearable rough dedicated to lovers of extreme sports and, more generally, of outdoor activities. It is distinguished by its considerably more generous dimensions, for an extremely sturdy housing and for a rich package of functions suitable for athletes.
Over there 49mm case is made of titanium. Since it is designed for sports, the new wearable has a brand new customizable physical button called Action button. The new Apple Watch Ultra can be adapted for a variety of extreme sports, such as mountaineering, ocean diving and hiking on mountain trails. But not only that: a new mode, called Red mode, improves the visibility of the screen in the absence of light: think diving into the depths of the sea, but also caving. The peak brightness reaches 2000 nits. In addition, the design of the crown and buttons has been studied so that they can be used even with gloves.
The device is equipped with three new microphones designed to enable clear conversations without acoustic interference, even in the most extreme situations, such as during a storm or high winds. Also, the speakers have been improved to make it easier to listen to notifications in all conditions. It will also be possible to activate an 86dB siren to report your position to the rescuers in case of danger.
The Apple Watch Ultra has an autonomy of 36 hours on a single chargewhich will go up to 60 hours by setting a special mode for battery optimization which will be released with a new update this fall.
All Apple Watch Ultra models will have cellular connectivity. Not a GPS-only version. It uses two GPS frequencies: L1 and L1. A solution that makes location information even more accurate.
In the US, the Apple Watch Ultra starts at $799 and pre-orders will open in a few hours, while the first shipments are scheduled for September 23. Several bands optimized for some specific sports will also be available from launch.
