According to this study, between July 2021 and July 2022, prices for in-app purchases in the App Store grew by at least 40%, and 9% on the Google Play Store. You can see it in this chart:
As we can see, while in the Google Play store prices rose moderately, in the Apple App Store they skyrocketed.
One would think that the reasons are the same that have affected almost everything recently: inflation and invasion of Ukraine. But the data shows that this is not the case.
The war in Russia began in March, and inflation soon began to rise as a result. But the graph shows us that app prices skyrocketed in the App Store between August and October 2021.long before Russia decided to invade Ukraine. And they have been steadily rising since last year, without affecting the outbreak of war or inflation.
Apptopia experts believe that the reason for this growth is Apple’s new privacy policy, which was released last year, just in time for the months of the highest growth shown in the graph.
