A recently published study confirms that the shortage from vitamin b12 and theexcess from homocysteine in the blood can damage endothelial cells. The latter form a layer of the blood vessel wall with an increase in free radicals, linked to the migraine episode.

Istanbul university students conducted a survey. A way to better understand the link between vitamin B12 and seizure frequency migraine and their degree of pain. The study included 127 migraineurs and 45 healthy people. THE factors analyzed were: migraine, duration of attacks, severity of pain and location of headache. Here, the researchers considered low levels of vitamin B12, if lower than 300 nanograms/liter of blood.

The participants were divided into three groups, according to the frequency of the to attack. There are therefore rare episodic, frequent and chronic episodic seizures. Chronic migraines are identified as headaches that last more than 4 hours for 15 or more days per month for 3 months. Vitamin B12 levels in migraineurs were found to be lower compared to the control group. Those of patients with chronic migraines were also lower than those with less frequent migraines.

As the vitamin B12 is more lowin practice there is one higher frequency from pain. The authors of the study speculate that a vitamin B12 deficiency is possible in chronic migraines due to frequent use of painkillers. These can interfere with the absorption of this vitamin. However, other studies will have to confirm this theory.
