According to a study, the80.2% of the Italian population uses the internet regularly. However, there are important gaps: by education, age group and geographical area. Although it is growing, the figure is still lower than the European average (87%).
Compared to 2020, the percentage of Italians connected to the internet has increased by 3.8%. According to the research, it is mainly men who regularly use the internet (81.7%), while the percentage stops at 78.7% for women.
The internet is clearly finding its way among the very young. Virtually all Italian teens usually connect to the Internet. Adoption, on the other hand, still remains quite low under above 65. Added to this is the gap of nearly 10 percentage points between north and south, as well as the huge gap that separates adoption between the population with high and low educational qualifications.
In households of only people over 65, internet use drops to 34.2%. “I can’t use it” is the most common answer (60%) among the Italians who don’t use the internetwhile 23.3% say they do not find it a useful tool.
