According to the latest rumors, we will have to wait until 2025 to see the first iPhone equipped with a 5G modem made by Apple. No longer a modem produced by a partner company, but a solution that is produced directly in-house. In other words, the operation would replicate what has already been seen with Apple Silicon chips.

In the past, there’s been talk of the first Apple-produced modem making its debut in 2022, but it seems Apple has preferred to postpone the big move. Nor will it happen in 2023 and 2024. The roadmap is still quite long, and Apple wants to make sure it has what it takes to provide its customers with an excellent solution — or at least as good as the Qualcomm products it uses. now.

In fact, the iPhones 14 are equipped with: Snapdragon X65, which is also compatible with satellite connection (for SOS messages). According to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the next iPhone 15 will mount it instead Snapdragon X70, an advanced solution that should support speeds of up to 10 Gbps in download and 3.5 Gbps in upload. In 2024 it will be the turn of the iPhone 16, with the modem Snapdragon X75 (which we don’t know the details of yet).

In 2025, with the iPhone 17, we should see Apple’s first internal modem — which will likely be compatible with next-generation connectivity standards.
