After laying off about one in two employees, cutting the freelance team to the bone and sparking another wave of layoffs, now Twitter is preparing to move on to phase two. The winning team doesn’t change, they say, and Twitter certainly wasn’t winning.

So it’s time to look for new talent. “People who are talented in coding, and therefore in programming, are given the highest priority,” Elon Musk explained.

Musk also spoke about the possibility of relocating the headquarters of Tweeting in Texel, where the headquarters of the other companies are located. “I don’t think it’s a priority right now, but it’s possible we’ll keep two offices tomorrow, one of them in Texas,” he explained.

In a recent meeting with employees, the billionaire reaffirmed his belief that he wants to place greater emphasis on diversity of opinion and background within the company. “To be a digital marketplace, we need to represent people with a wide range of ideas, even ones we don’t agree with.”

Elon Musk has asked employees to send their superiors weekly reports on their progress, and has also discussed the possibility of making the company even more decentralized, for example by hiring tech teams in Japan, India, Indonesia and Brazil. “Twitter has always had a strong presence in Japan, but ideally Twitter should be strong in every country without exception.”

“We have about the same number of daily active users in Japan as we do in America, but Japan has a third of the population of the United States,” he explains.

Meanwhile, Twitter would have already taken over George Hotz, the former hacker known by the nickname Hotz and famous for creating some of the first jailbreaks for the iPhone and PlayStation systems.
