Custom OC BIOS raises power limit from RTX 3090 Ti to 890 watts

A custom overclocking bios for the Asus RTX 3090 Ti Strix was spotted on the Chinese Chiphell forum, pushing the current limit of the new Ampere flagship a bit. Nvidia’s reference design uses 450 watts of tgp (28.5% more than the RTX 3090), while the new bios should allow a power consumption of not less than 890 watts.

According to MEGAsizeGPU the bios also works on Asus TUF version.

Considering the large amount of power and the associated heat generation, this mod is not intended for the average user. Extreme overclockers in particular benefit from this as they use an exotic cooling solution such as liquid nitrogen.

While it seems unlikely that the 890 W limit will actually be used, a screenshot from a Chiphell user shows that his card used 945 watts during the famous FurMark benchmark. Given the theoretical 600W limit of a single 12VHPWR connector, this user could have a model with two PCIe 16-pin plugs – such as the EVGA Kingpin of Galax Hall of Fame.

Twitterer MEGAsizeGPU has made the bios available on the TechPowerUp website at Videocardz’s request so other users can start using it too. Given the risks involved, risking an RTX 3090 Ti that costs more than 2,000 euros is particularly not recommended.
