A literature review published in the journal Human Reproduction Update and conducted by an international research team raises the alarm about the decline in sperm production worldwide.

The team published a similar study in 2017, warning of the risks this finding could pose to human reproduction.

The previous study was criticized for only looking at people from Europe, North America, and Australia; The new revision includes more recent data and countries in Asia, South America and Africa.

The 38 studies that make up the review were selected from thousands of studies, taking into account criteria such as sperm count, sampling method, and health status of the participants.

According to the data from the meta-analysis, the sperm production rate has decreased in the last 46 years, reaching a decline of up to 50%.

For the team of experts, far beyond a fertility indicator, the decline in sperm production would be a reflection of the health conditions of men around the world.

However, for other experts in human health and reproduction, there is no cause for alarm as levels remain within the expected range.

Counting methods have changed over the years, according to some experts, and there is no way to reliably determine whether such a sudden drop in production has occurred.

However, despite the differences, both groups agree that more research is needed to understand the causes and long-term effects of this phenomenon.
