Microsoft Edge has become second most used browser in the world, supplanting Apple’s Safari browser. This is evident from the ranking compiled by StatCounter: Microsoft’s browser is used on 10.07% of computers worldwide. But the competition remains fierce: the difference with Safari is relatively small and it is easy to imagine that the ranking could change quickly in the near future.
Safari it is installed on 9.61% of computers, taking away 0.46% of the market share taken by Microsoft Edge.
Google Chrome remains the undisputed king of desktop browsers, with a market share of 66.65%. In fourth position we find Mozilla Firefox, which is installed on 7.86% of the computers.
Microsoft Edge is the default browser installed on Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system. With the growing adoption of the latter around the world, it’s easy to imagine that the number of Microsoft Edge users will grow with it. Last February alone, Edge had a market share of 9.54%.
Very different story for mobile browsers: Edge is not even in the world top 6, while we always find Chrome in the first place, followed by Safari. No wonder: the former is installed by default on all Android smartphones, while the latter is installed on all iPhones and iPads.
