At the Google I/O 2022 event, the Mountain View company also unveiled a few AR glasses experiment with simultaneous translator integrated. The glasses can show a translation of the conversations on the screen.
In short, it’s like watching a television series: I show the glasses in real time subtitles, translate what we have just been told. It’s not a product for sale, or at least won’t be for long. On the other hand, Google has already shown a demonstration video of the project.
Obviously this is a sample video, it’s unlikely Google already has a prototype that can work that well. On the other hand, it is certainly interesting to know that the company is working on such ambitious projects – and certainly capable of changing the world and the lives of many people.
Thanks to augmented reality, captions appear right next to the other person’s face, so you don’t have to break eye contact. Question: When will the AR glasses with Google translate come on the market? Answer: bah. The company has not provided any information and it is almost certain that it will be several more years. At best. In the worst case, the project is thrown away and we never hear about it again.
In 2014, the company presented its Google Glass, ambitious glasses for augmented reality and with smart features that have actually been delivered to various influencers, journalists and companies. The project was too far ahead of its time and didn’t run very well, so much so that the edition intended for the general public never made it to the market.
