Ironically, initially Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 James Gunn contained naked allegory of the biblical scene. Or, at least, that’s what the director revealed a few days ago via a curious screenshot. In it you can see deleted scene already a cult first film is now a dilogy. In the photo, Groot (Vin Diesel) is standing in the center of a long table surrounded by other characters. Both Groot and the characters around him are posed and lit just like in the painting. And in fact, even Groot has the same physical posture as Jesus. immortalized by the imagination of a renaissance artist. The image also features Drax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper). However, the absence of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldanha) is striking.
A scene for a story that never made it into the final cut
Gunn later explained, also via his Twitter account, why he did not include this scene in the final cut of the film. “It was too flashy and stopped the flow of the story. It was the right choice.”. A fan asked the director if that scene was also cut as it was actually an announcement of what was to happen.
Gann hinted that this might be one of the reasons, but in fact, the reduction was due mainly to narrative reasons. “That too to some extent, but I’m not sure how many people expected Groot to die in a Marvel movie anyway,” he said. Which suggests that the decision to suppress the startling shot came about as part of the overall idea of the characters.
The director has repeatedly stated that Guardians of the Galaxy is probably his most personal and unique project.. Especially since Marvel gave them a lot of creative freedom, and the characters were integrated into the series in special cameos of great interest.
