George RR Martin spoke to The New York Times about the launch of House of the Dragon and returned to discuss Game of Thronesshowing that he was unaware of what was planned for the final season as well as some of the previous ones.

The writer revealed:

Since seasons five and six, and certainly during seasons seven and eight, I’ve been kept pretty little informed about what was going on.

Martin’s words confirm the fact that the writer had different intentions regarding the end of the story, so much so that he recently underlined that the last two books of the saga will be very different from the show.

These are his statements:

I am working in my garden and things are moving forward and changing. New ideas come in, old ones don’t seem to work, I write and rewrite and then write again. Through doors to nowhere, while others bring miracles. Some of the things you’ve seen in the TV series are in The Winds of Winter, but everything else will be very different. […] I’m going very far from the show.
