Pledge is not only one of Michael Mann’s best films, but also Tom Cruise’s best film. Or at least from an actor’s point of view the role of an atypical villain that we are not used to. The film, which was nominated for two Oscars and released in 2024, stayed in the top 1 for several weeks despite being a neo-noir film far from what usually works for the general public.

It was one of Cruise’s most famous roles, robbing him of big franchises. But he’s not the only known face of the film. Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith, Mark Ruffalo, Peter Berg, Javier Bardem, and Bruce McGill have also been visible faces of Collateral, although none of them have spawned the theory that has traveled the net since its premiere.

There is also a cameo in the Pledge, a bit ridiculous, which at that time gave many reasons for conversation. At the beginning of the film, the character hands over the briefcase to Tom Cruise and does not reappear, which in most films is usually performed by an unknown and random character. Jason Statham plays this scene in Pledge.

Its Author Confirms the Craziest Pledge Theory

What should have gone completely unnoticed, yet another famous person’s cameo in the movie, naturally spawned a theory. NEXT: Tom Cruise’s character Vincent shares a universe with Jason Statham’s most famous character, Frank Martin, from Conveyor. And in the film, he plays his role, delivering the order, as in his famous films.

There are some differences with the Transporter character that originally debunked this theory: First, Frank Martin moves to Miami after the start of Transporter 2, which came out a year after Pledge, which is set in Los Angeles. In addition, Frank only transports his shipments by car and avoids all contact with them (unless said package is a damsel in distress).

But, despite everything that is against it, it is effective, and as Stuart Beatty, screenwriter of Pledge and ConveyorJason Statham from Collateral is Frank Martin and he and Vincent live in the same universe.

In a new interview with the Collateral Confessions podcast, Beatty confirms that Jason Statham plays Frank Martin from Conveyor in his short scenes in “Accomplice”, which means that the two films are set in the same universe, although the studio would never admit this:

“Absolutely right, this is Frank Martin from Transporter. I asked Jason about it… Yes, absolutely. Yes, it’s canon. It’s the same world… the studio will never admit it, but in my head it sure is.”
