End Rings of Power, the controversial Prime Video series has finally managed to develop its storylines perfectly and brilliantly. Also, unravel the great mysteries of the plot in an elegant, well-constructed way and with sophisticated storytelling. This included the identity of the enigmatic Dark Lord Sauron hidden under the face of one of the series’ protagonists..
In the end, Halbrand, the protagonist with a mysterious secret that Galadriel stumbled upon in the middle of the Surrounding Sea, turned out to be corrupted by Maya. A predictable twist – the show left enough clues about such a possibility – but the script was able to show it with ingenious patience. As hinted, the mysterious man with no past, survived the fiasco he never told, and was skilled at counterfeiting, was the Dark Lord.
It all happened after Galadriel noticed the more than suspicious behavior of Halbrand, whom he took to the elven domain in search of his cure. The troubled Elf Lady looked through the records of the origins of the kings of the south. Only to discover that the last ruler died a thousand years ago and left no offspring. “I never lied to you,” Halbrand says, making no attempt to hide the revelation. “I have always told the truth about myself.” Which, as perverted as it may sound, is the truth. This includes, of course, taking on a banner and even a dead man’s form in order to manipulate everyone around him to his advantage.

Rings of Power he got Halbrand’s story to match what Tolkien wrote about what happened to Sauron during the Second Age. In other words, Sauron fought alongside Morgoth and was defeated. “I have no king,” Halbrand said bitterly on various occasions, clearly referring to a more important event. In addition, he has shown his powers of transformation and disguise. And if that wasn’t enough, it seems he succeeded in carrying out the elaborate plan that Mordor gave birth to.
The difference was that the plot changed his name from Annatar (“giver of gifts” in Quenya) to a behavior that simply expressed the meaning of the word. The Dark Lord, disguised as an unknown person, was responsible for the advanced forging and blacksmithing skills required to create the Three Rings..
Moreover, he found a way to fuse mithril (which did not accept less noble metals) with the gold of Valinor from Galadriel’s dagger. Which eventually became the answer to a riddle that was given to the elven shaper Celebrimbor during the creation of magical artifacts.
Rings of Power managed to create a whole situation that allows to naturally explain the presence of Sauron and his influence in Eregion. Halbrand shared his knowledge and further found how to influence every creature in the elven realm that he needed to achieve his goal. Following the instructions of corrupted maya, the first three rings of the future twenty, which the story should cover, are part of the script.
The future that’s yet to come
Narya, Nenya and Vilya, three magical artifacts known to Tolkien fans, could be seen in one of the final scenes of the season. Forged with magic, skill and pain (sacrifice of the dagger of Galadriel), they were depicted in the same way as Tolk’s descriptions. In the future, the items will be distributed among Gil-galad, Elrond and Galadriel.
While there is still no indication of how Sauron will manage to create the rest of the rings and link them to the One, it is clear that his presence in Mordor speaks to his intentions. A topic that the Prime Video series will no doubt explore in depth next season.
