Just in time for celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversarySony has released an update for PS5 that includes new themes and details that will bring tears to the eyes of the nostalgic. The Japanese giant has combined the original PS1 splash screen with the distinctive Sony logo and music. With this gesture, the company wanted to reward its users for three decades of loyalty.
If you turn on your PS5, you will definitely receive a notification about an available update. Unlike system software, which installs automatically, it requires a manual reset for one simple reason: Sony wants you to be watching TV when the console turns on. Rebooting your PS5 will take you back to 1994 with the original PS1 splash screen. (PSOne or PSX as it used to be called).
“December 3, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of PlayStation. To celebrate this occasion and for a limited time only, we have added some details so that we can travel through PlayStation history together,” Sony mentions.



The software update adds a new section to the console configuration menu. Inside we will find themes inspired by previous generations which change the menu layout and sound of your PS5. Eat five options to choose from: PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and 30th Anniversary, the latter supporting PS5 sounds with gray menu.
Themes include each console’s signature UI sounds. You’re probably too young to remember what the old PS1 sounded like, even though you’ve seen it countless times. original intro with 3D logo and melody by Takafumi Fujisawa. Now you can enjoy it every time you turn on your console.
