Google announced on Wednesday (6) a change in the policies of the Android app store aimed at protecting its user base, but this could also result in the removal of a number of old games and tools from the platform.
The innovation is a requirement by the company for apps that are part of the Google Play Store to comply with API requirements at least two years before the last Android version.
The set of measures enters into force as of: November 1, 2022. According to Google, the goal is to let games and utilities improve their own privacy and security features, which means better control of permissions on devices. That way, the user doesn’t risk downloading a dated and possibly vulnerable program.
cleaning
According to the official statement from Google, the “vast majority” of online store members already meet this requirement and should have no problem keeping downloads alive in the digital store.
However, some old creations or creations from developers that ended support for services and apps years ago may disappear from the platform temporarily or permanently. New notifications about this policy should be made when the cleaning deadline approaches.
In Apple’s iOS, this type of policy has been in place for some time to force developers to adopt the latest rules and fundamentals in their apps. The difference is that outside the main Android store, there is the possibility of installing programs that are not in the case of competitors.
