Authorities will allocate about 1.8 billion rubles this year for preparation of the Future Games e-sports competitions, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

According to Mishustin, the head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, gave instructions to organize eSports competitions. The Games of the Future are scheduled for 2024, Kazan has been chosen as the venue.

“The government will allocate almost 1.8 billion rubles from the federal budget for these purposes this year and almost double next year. Private investment will be attracted,” Mishustin was quoted as saying by TASS.

It is planned that the allocation of funds will take place in two stages: for preparation and for the tournament itself. In total, 5.2 billion rubles will be spent on the Games of the Future. The Russian prime minister said that some 2,000 players from 200 teams would take part in the competition.

The “Games of the Future” will be held in new disciplines. The format of the tournament provides for the introduction of innovative developments in electronic sports, robotics and virtual reality. The prize fund for the games is $25 million.

At the end of last year, the authorities began to discuss the “Gaming Industry of the Future” project. Within its framework, by 2030, a single independent developer and publisher should appear in Russia.

As Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development, stated at a press conference on February 15, the state will actively stimulate the development of domestic games in the coming years, including through support for developers.
