Google is ready to take new measures that will provide the user with additional security when downloading and using applications from the Play Store. The company, in particular, warned developers that those applications that have not been updated for some time to adapt to new versions of Android, will no longer appear in your app store and therefore will not be available to the user.

The company confirmed on its official developer blog that the measure will take effect from November 1, 2022. It will affect, first of all, those applications available on Google Play that have not received any updates from the developer for two years. While it is likely that there are applications that do not require constant updates, Mountain View guarantees that eImportantly, they all offer support for the latest versions of Android.

That is why those creators who do not update their application and do not include at least one API available within two years after the latest version of Android will see their application. no longer showing up on google play and how the number of new user installs is reduced.

Google assures that the main reason is to offer the user additional protection, given that legacy applications do not include these security and privacy features announced in the latest versions of Android. However, the company clarifies that there are several applications that do not receive updates. In addition, it will offer additional tools so that those developers who have an outdated app on Google Play can update it with the new security measures.

“As of November 1, 2022, existing apps that do not target the API layer within two years of the last major release of Android will not be discoverable or installable by new users with Android devices.
