In 2022, 10,400 Russians received a US passport, a record number for one year in the last 10 years. In addition, the Russians received a relatively large number of investment visas last year and ranked second in terms of the number of green card lottery received.

The number of Russians receiving a US passport in 2022 was a 10-year record

2022 set a ten-year record for the number of Russians granted US citizenship. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to data from the consulting firm Second Wind, which was based on information from the US Immigration and Naturalization Service.

By the end of 2022, 10.4 thousand Russians became holders of an American passport. 97 Russians received investment visas: in 2021 there were nine, in 2020 – 36. Russians also ranked second in the number of green cards received – lottery tickets for US citizenship.

Russians also received 33,600 B1 and B2 tourist visas, with a refusal rate of 26.1%.

Experts point out that the increase in obtaining passports and visas is a delayed effect of the processing of applications that were submitted in 2017-2019. A person acquires US citizenship after at least five years after receiving a green card and one to four years after receiving an investment visa.
