Russian iPhone owners should check their devices for viruses, as their devices can be infected by vulnerabilities in Apple software. This was announced by Artyom Sheikin, a member of the Federation Council constitutional committee.
Sheikin urged all users to check their iPhone for a possible infection and advised them to use special programs developed by Russian companies to find out if their data has been transferred to scammers.
He turned to Kaspersky Lab’s chief expert, Sergey Golovanov, with a request to provide an official comment on the scale of malware infection for Russian smartphones. Golovanov noted that Kaspersky Lab has known cases of virus attacks on several dozen iOS devices, and it is believed that the attack was not just against their company.
Information security experts stated that there is no protection against such attacks and the only precaution may be to switch to devices from other manufacturers.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced that several thousand iPhones of Russian and foreign users have been infected with malware. The FSB believes Apple is collaborating with US intelligence. Kaspersky Lab confirmed the information about the virus on Russian smartphones and reported that the infection occurred through the iMessage service. Apple denies any allegations of ties to US intelligence.
