The specialist noted that eyelid twitching or benign myokymia is a condition that occurs as a result of spasm of the muscle fibers of the circular muscle of the eye. As a rule, this condition passes on its own and does not pose a health risk.
It is usually caused by overwork, stress, excess caffeine or alcohol. It can also occur due to prolonged computer or phone use, disruption of sleep and rest. The specialist recommends following work-rest regimens, normalizing sleep patterns, avoiding stress, reducing coffee, alcohol and smoking or quitting completely, in order for eyelid twitching to go away.
But if the twitching of the eyelid lasts for more than two weeks, this is an occasion to seek medical help.
