The Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) may show the first production model of the Volga in a year, said Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. He added that the production will be released on the sites of companies that have left the country.

It was previously reported that GAZ is looking for a new technology partner to start production of the Volg in 2024. The venture partners can fill Volkswagen’s vacant capacities. The automaker’s assets were sold to the Avilon holding company.

According to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, at the beginning of next summer, the company will be able to present the first production model under the Volga brand.

“In terms of time, this is about a year, taking into account the completion of the selection procedure for foreign partners, and about 9 months after the release of this work is required to organize direct production,” predicted the minister, his words. are cited by Vedomosti.

Manturov clarified that the capacities left by Western manufacturers will be adapted for the production of passenger cars, which GAZ focuses on.

Before the entry of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine, Skoda and Volkswagen Taos cars were assembled at the GAZ plant. The assembly contract between Volkswagen and GAZ was terminated in August 2022.

Previously, the Russian assets of the Renault group became state property, and the Muscovites are now assembled at the company’s former plant in Moscow.
