The Moscow World Court fined Yandex LLC 2 million rubles for failing to provide the FSB with information about users of the Yandex.Services service. The decision was appealed and entered into force, TASS has learned.

The company did not provide the department with data on Yandex users. Services”. The FSB needs them “to search for people or to ensure the security of the country.” The representative of the court said that earlier the fine was appealed, now it has entered into force.

Yandex’s actions are qualified as “the company’s repeated failure to comply with the obligation to ensure the implementation of the requirements for its equipment and programs for state agencies to seek or organize state security” (part 4 of article 13.31 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

The first fine in the amount of 400 thousand rubles was imposed on the company by the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow. Then Yandex was found guilty under Part 3 of Art. 13.31 Administrative Code of the Russian Federation.

  • In 2022, the State Duma adopted a third-reading law obliging taxi services to provide the FSB with access to their databases where order information is stored and processed. The changes will take effect on September 1, 2023.
