GS Group plans to launch the country’s first ODM (original design manufacturer) plant, Vedomosti learned. It will produce smartphones of Russian brands. Expected to start production before the end of this year, GS Group will invest around 3.5 billion rubles in R&D, sample development and software licensing.
The production will be launched at the companies of the Technopolis GS cluster in Gusev, Kaliningrad region. Tablets and laptops will also be collected there. According to the representative of the holding, the plans contemplate the launch of 30 thousand devices per month.
The interlocutor of the publication noted that the holding will present its samples at the international industrial exhibition “Innoprom” in Yekaterinburg in July 2023.
Customers can be Russian companies that produce devices under contract at Chinese or Taiwanese companies. In particular, SberDevices, Softline, Digma, consider Promobit CEO Maxim Koposov.
Brands that have factories in Russia can also become customers, he adds. At the same time, according to Koposov, the production of 30,000 devices will require costs comparable to the production of devices in factories in China.
