Spotify is considering adding full music videos to its app, which could help the streaming service compete against YouTube and TikTok.

Spotify seeks partners to stream full clips

According to sources close to the company, the service has already started negotiations with potential partners, writes Bloomberg. The agency was unable to receive an official comment from the company.

The new feature will complement Spotify’s growing efforts to promote video formats within its app. The latter in the era of streaming media are considered more profitable than audio.

Spotify already allows musicians to upload live images (looping gifs or Canva clips), but they are limited to 10 seconds. Also this year, the company launched the “clips” feature, but these are also short videos of up to 30 seconds.

Earlier this week, the service announced that the platform hosted more than 100,000 video podcasts. The move to video formats is also confirmed by Spotify’s content creation collaborations with Paramaout and Comedy Central, but those partnerships are now on hold.

The names of the companies Spotify has entered negotiations with to stream the full clips have not been disclosed.
