Uber announced this Monday (23): will ask users for a selfie the requesting platform to travel with cash payment to prove your identity. The “U-selfie” tool is still a pilot and aims to provide more safety to the drivers of the app.
The new feature is only available for customers who request travel without “providing data on digital payment method”, i.e. without saving bank or credit card data.
According to the company’s statement, the recorded images will not be shared with drivers and will not pass biometric verification. The recording will be stored on Uber’s servers and will be available to the authorities if any consultation is required.
According to Araceli Almeida, Uber’s director of Security Operations, the selfie comes as an “additional layer” to the CPF verification run by the company in partnership with Serasa Experian, in addition to document checking.
driver safety
According to internal research by Uber, the feature was among the most requested by the app’s co-drivers. This is the third announcement of platform improvements aimed at the security of service providers. The company, which has started to offer drivers the last stop of the journey in detail in the past months, has integrated a button for speed dials with 911.
