The report revealed that images of children taken from hundreds of hacked Hikvision cameras were sold on Telegram. The publication writes that hackers gained access to unprotected Hikvision cameras, possibly using weak or known passwords, and then used Telegram to distribute access to the recordings.
IPVM found messages in Telegram channels advertising access to hacked cameras using terms like “cp”. Since then, Telegram has removed channels, some of which have thousands of members.
Hikvision’s response was negative, stating that he was unaware of these crimes. “IPVM’s selfish decision to reach out to us for comment before alerting the authorities is highly questionable and, in this case, embarrassing.” IPVM disputes this claim and states that it contacted the FBI immediately after discovering the crimes.
