Artem Veris, the director of FITKİT, a dietitian and the manager of the firm that produces protein desserts, started to discuss the dangers of excessive sugar consumption in terms of health. He pointed out that excessive sugar consumption can lead to weight gain, tooth decay, premature aging and other problems. If a person consumes more calories than they expend, especially too many carbohydrates, including sugar, the excess calories turn into fat and lead to weight gain.

In addition, the constant consumption of large amounts of sugar in food leads to increased blood sugar levels and overproduction of insulin, the hormone responsible for transporting glucose into cells. If glucose jumps constantly, this can lead to metabolic disorders and a decrease in the sensitivity of cells to insulin, which can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes.

Too much sugar can also lead to oral problems such as cavities, aesthetic defects and premature tooth loss. Sugar increases acidity in the mouth, which promotes the growth of cariogenic bacteria. These bacteria destroy tooth enamel and cause cavities.

In addition, sugar can cause premature aging of the skin. Excessive consumption of foods high in sugar can change the physical and structural properties of collagen and elastin, the main components of our skin. This leads to dullness, wrinkles and loss of firmness. Also, too much sugar can cause afternoon sleepiness, which can affect activity during the day.

The expert recommends that adults reduce their sugar intake to 10% or better 5% of their total caloric intake, which is about 25 grams per day. It is recommended to avoid sugar completely. However, the sugar found in fruits and vegetables should be added to the diet as they contain beneficial nutrients. It is important not to exceed the recommended daily intake of carbohydrates and sugars from fruits and vegetables.
