Battijig revealed the contents of a letter from politicians in the US Congress who are concerned about the testing of Chinese self-driving cars on American streets. They expressed concern that these tools could collect sensitive information about the American population and infrastructure and then be shared with China. As an example, the letter cites seven Chinese companies operating in the US, including Apollo and Pony.a.

Lawmakers also stressed that US companies face severe restrictions on operating and testing autonomous vehicles in China. As a countermeasure, they proposed banning Chinese self-driving cars from testing in the US so as not to miss out on an important strategic advantage.
