Carmakers BMW and Audi, following Mercedes-Benz, have limited Russian dealers’ access to their software. Car owners do not have access to maintenance history, item updates, Izvestia learned.
At one of the Audi dealerships, the publication reported that access to the software has been limited for two months. This caused problems with the programming of duplicate keys, as well as with the installation of parts “where programming is required: control units, gearbox, parking sensors, etc.”.
Market participants are either working on their own software or “obtaining information through alternative channels.” However, there is no other software for Audi yet and it is not recommended to buy new models.
- There are workarounds, some distributors connect to services via European IP addresses or contact other companies, as online services are often developed by third-party companies, said Jan Haytseer, vice president of the National Union of Automobiles (NAU). He believes that part of the diagnostics will be disconnected, and disabling the software can create risks of problems with the alarm and the coding of the car keys.
