Instead, Microsoft is focusing on hardware that’s already available so developers can get the most out of it. The company is also working on an Xbox Series S with more SSD storage, but does not plan to release mid-gen upgrades.

In addition to his comments on why the Xbox Series X/S update won’t, Phil Spencer stated that there are still many unexplored opportunities in the industry and we haven’t seen everything that current consoles can do.

He emphasized that it’s not just about pixel count or resolution, but also about lighting techniques and other elements that make games great.
