Basically, Russians got their first mobile devices in adolescence: 16% aged 14-16, 15% aged 11-13, and 14% aged 17-19. 8% of 1,608 research participants bought their first gadget before age 7.

Most people (27%) got their first phone as a birthday present, 20% for no reason, 11% at the beginning of the school year, 6% at the end of the school year, 5% on other holidays, 3% – to the new year. But 28 percent of Russians bought their first phone on their own. Among them were those who used their first paycheck, a large income, rewards or a job acquisition as motivation.

As for the use of computers and laptops, these devices were “first touched by the Russians” before. More than 20 percent started using it at the age of 14-16, 18 percent at the age of 11-13, 15 percent at the age of 7-10, and 14 percent at the age of 17-19. However, it was observed that 19% of them had a decrease in their computer usage experience between the ages of 20-29, and 7% of them at the age of 30 and above. Russians got personal computers much later, mostly around 20-29 years old. However, 6.5% do not currently have their own device.

According to the research, 26 percent of Russians call electronic games “Tetris” and “You wait” as symbols of their childhood. About a quarter prefer game consoles such as Dendy, Sega, Game Boy or PlayStation. 14% of respondents chose push-button phones or smartphones, 10% chose recorders, and 9% believe Tamagotchi is the most memorable device. Nintendo’s Super Mario became the main childhood game for 14% of Russians, while 13% chose GTA and Need for Speed ​​races. 11% remembered the game “Tetris” and 7% remembered The Sims life simulator.
