For a week now, all of Russia has been discussing what happened on September 9th.
Worldwide on September 5, the digital release of the most popular novelties of this year – the films “Barbie” (our review) and “Oppenheimer” (our review) will take place. And already on September 9, cinemas collected this version on the big screen. This is what various sources say, including posters of their own cinemas.
The voice and dubbing studio Red Head Sound, which voiced “Barbie”, also announced that a movie about Barbie in Russia could be shown on September 9th.
However, the rental issue is still open. Deputies and public figures oppose the ban on showing these films in the country. Viewers’ opinions are wasted.
We tell you what is happening now with the rental of the two most anticipated new products in Russia.
The Ministry of Culture did not give a rental certificate for “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”
The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation opposed the display of paintings by Gerwig and Nolan in Russia. According to the department, these films do not correspond to national moral values.
It is assumed that the films you offered for viewing by the citizens of our country – “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” – do not put forward the requirements and tasks set by the main country to preserve and change traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. Russian rental is full of high-quality domestic premieres.
In 2023, such big releases as the family film Cheburashka in History, which became the highest-grossing film in the history of Russian cinema, the first feature film shot in space, The Challenge, the first feature film about modern Russia, Witness, have already been released.
Andrey Malyshev, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation
The ministry said that an increase in the share of Russian films at the box office contributes to conveying national national values and patriotic education of young people. Representatives of the film industry, he said, note the benefits of the advantage in the box office of the number of films from Hollywood film studios.
What do public figures think about this?
Mizulina proposed to ban “Directly Kakha” and “Dom-2”
The head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, did not leave the statement of the Ministry of Culture without attention.
In her opinion, it’s all about copyright, and not about promoting traditional principles:
I didn’t really understand one thing: if “Barbie” is impossible, then why is it possible to “Directly Kahu”, or “The Battle of Psychics” and “Dom-2”? Do they exactly correspond to our spiritual and moral values? Most likely, the essence of the problem with the rental is in copyright, and not in values, and this should be discussed.

Gorelkin sees no problems in allowing the rental of this new product in Russia
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin said that “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” do not contradict the spiritual and moral values of Russia.
These pictures, according to him, are better than many films that the Ministry of Culture issued a rental certificate this year.
The attempt of the Ministry of Culture to drag in “spiritual and moral values” here is nothing but surprising. The provisions of the state document, to which the ministry is directed, do not contradict any of the films, in my opinion.
Perhaps this is my subjective consideration, but the history of the creation of weapons and the study of the inner world of one of the fathers of the atomic bomb carry a humanistic message that is more relevant today than ever. And the movie about Barbie is deeper than it seems, and contains an unusual portion of social satire. Of course, both films are far from being masterpieces of world culture, but I haven’t watched much better than many films that the Ministry of Culture has issued a rental faith and spiritual and moral values this year (albeit with caution).
After all, anyone who wanted to see Barbie and Oppenheimer has already done so. And the fact that the producers of these films missed the box office from Russian distribution is their conscious choice. But against this background, the Russian film and serial industry shows a qualitative development. And if at the same time spiritual and moral values do not suffer, it will be very good.
— Anton Gorelkin
The deputy noted that he does not support the support of the worldview, as it “does more harm than good.”
In Siberia, the model organizes a single picket in support of Barbie.
In Krasnoyarsk, model Galina Magergut staged a one-man picket against the decision not to issue a rental license for the film Barbie.
Dressed in pink clothes, the girl went to the cinema with a poster “I / We are Barbie. Ministry of Culture, you are wrong. However, she could not stand there for a long time, she was driven out by the police.
I held a one-man picket in support of the release of the film “Barbie” on the screens of Russia, with respect, it is unfair that they are trying to ban a funny film about girls.
Magergut wrote in her social networks
Is it worth waiting for the release of films in Russia
While it is difficult whether “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” will be released on the big screens in the country.
The Ministry of Culture has already announced its position and is in no hurry to change it. Perhaps public figures will be able to change the opinion of the ministry.
The official digital release of the pictures, we recall, will take place tomorrow, September 5th. Even if they are not shown in cinemas, there will still be an opportunity to watch them online.
