On September 14, Russian automakers AvtoVAZ, Sollers and Moskvich were placed on the sanctions list (SDN List) of the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Experts are confident that the sanctions will have little impact on the companies, as they have prepared themselves and ceased their presence in Western jurisdictions, Vedomosti has learned.
AvtoVAZ and Moskvich declined to comment. Sollers does not expect any consequences from the sanctions, as over the past year the company’s business has been completely restructured towards “sanction-resistant component supply channels, financial settlement mechanisms and strategically focusing on technological independence from partners.” external”.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Sollers lost his partners – Ford, Mazda and Isuzu, who were responsible for cargo in the Elabuga, Vladivostok areas and, partly, in Ulyanovsk. After this, the company began to cooperate with the Chinese automobile manufacturer JAC. The latter also became the basis of the Moskvich project.
AvtoVAZ started production of the Chinese FAW Bestune T77 crossover under the Lada X-Cross 5 brand at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg.
