Scientists from the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS and other institutions have developed a new technology using microcavities that can accumulate light energy. These devices provide compact and efficient ways to accelerate chemical reactions and have great potential for future applications such as data communications, quantum processors, and highly sensitive sensor systems.

The researchers created a metal-dielectric optical microcavity with controlled quality factor, an important parameter for the efficiency of the device. This microresonator has a layered structure with a liquid crystal that is sensitive to external influences, allowing you to adjust its properties, including the quality factor.

Quality control is important because it allows the device to store energy longer and perform its functions more efficiently. This new Q-controlled microcavity can be used to create energy-efficient optical devices such as microlasers and sensors.
