Yandex bought Skazbuka, a kidtech platform for educational games for preschool children, from Maltese company Zebrainy Ltd. The parties did not disclose the amount of the transaction; according to analysts, it could amount to 120 million rubles, Vedomosti learned.
Skazbuka was founded in 2017 by Kesha Skirnevsky. During the entire period, 7 million dollars were invested in the project and the application was downloaded 4 million times in Russia. On the platform you can find more than 40 mini-games to develop logic, emotional intelligence, reading, counting, drawing, etc. The application was monetized by subscription – about 400 rubles per month.
The service team will move to Yandex and the platform will continue to operate under the same name. The purchase of Skazbuka is Yandex’s first M&A operation in the children’s segment.
Previously, the company had only signed content agreements: investments in the relaunch of the cartoon series “Smeshariki”, joint launch with “Children’s Radio” of the podcast “Khrum Puzzle”, etc.
