Fraudsters have created applications for iOS aimed at obtaining personal data of Russian-speaking users. These apps disguised themselves as various platforms, including cryptocurrency accounting tools and mini-games to test financial knowledge. Their goal was to lure users into financial fraud schemes.
Kaspersky Lab experts discovered such applications in the App Store and reported it to Apple. The apps have now been removed from the store. Experts advise users to be careful and check the ratings and reviews of the apps, as the fake apps found have low ratings and negative reviews. You should also use mobile antivirus solutions for additional protection.
Scammers used phishing pages to collect users’ personal information. They presented their apps as investment platforms promising high returns. Users were asked to fill out forms containing personal information and then called to persuade them to invest in dubious projects. Scammers were persistent and intrusive in their attempts to deceive.
